Sedation Options (if treatment needed)

 

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also know as laughing gas, helps patients relax during their dental visits.   It is given through a small breathing mask which is placed over the child's nose.   The gas has a sweet scent and it is quickly eliminated from the body at the completion of the treatment.   With nitrous oxide, your child remains fully conscious and keeps all natural reflexes.  The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes this technique as a safe, effective relaxation technique used when treating children's dental needs. 

 

In-office General Anesthesia

When your child is a good candidate for sedation because of multiple dental decay, high dental anxiety, or lack of compliance, general anesthesia sedation may be an option.

 

Dr. Alex Targ is a medical anesthesiologist who will provide general anesthesia using the intubation technique.  It is safe and effective.  Patients can go home within 20 minutes of completion of treatment.  He has over 20 years of experience and performed over 25,000 pediatric cases.  He is trained through UCSF and Stanford hospital.  As a medical doctor, Dr. Targ is able to help you get reminbursement for your child's sedation through your medical insurance.
